Sorry its been a while, wedding season is in full swing here as is the WEATHER! Which brings me to today’s topic of having a back up plan for your event. We have had a down pour of rain every day for the last two weeks. So with all the wet weather it comes to mind how often girls do not have a back up plan. We live in a state where most weddings are outdoors and our weather changes with a snap of your fingers.
I have been very lucky in the past few years with G.G. Events, we have only had one wedding get rained out. As things go, we had a back up plan, but on that day the facility we were at told us no we could not go with our original back up plan, that one of their employees said we could use and had to come up with another plan on the spot. I have learned from that to not only have a rain plan, but if at all possible to have two.
It is very smart to have a back up plan, not just for rain, but for any extreme weather. You should always think of the comfort of you, your bridal party, family and guest. No one wants to sit through a 30-40 minute wedding ceremony in 103 degree heat index. If you do did decided to have an outdoor ceremony, look for a location that allows you to have an outdoor or indoor ceremony. This will limit the cost of having to possible bring in a tent or find another location with only a day or so to spare. We can sometimes wait it out long enough to get a small break, but then that effects the rest of time through out the reception.
Please keep in mind that if you want an outdoor wedding, that you do need to keep a just in case fund in your budget to cover any cost related to the weather. Also, let your guest know that you plan on getting married outdoors, so they may dress in the appropriate attire. It’s not fun trying to walk through grass or sand in heels.
I know the wedding we have coming up this weekend, we have two rain plan options available and we talked open and honestly to our bride that there is a very good possibility that they will have to be used. If you are week out from your wedding and weather is only getting worse, then you need to mentally prepare yourself that you might be moving indoors. You can still use all the items you were going to use outdoors to make the inside look just as pretty. You even use items from you reception to transform the space.
Remember rain on your wedding is suppose to be good luck.
